STRO License Renewal Process & Next Steps

As a reminder, Short-Term Residential Occupancy (STRO) licenses in San Diego are valid for two years from the date of issuance. The STRO program will send an official renewal notification email 60 days before your license expires. If your license is due for renewal, The Coastal Project is here to assist with the process.

Renewal Process & What We Need from You

To proceed with your license renewal, please provide the following details for your Accela Citizen Access Portal:

  • Username
  • Email associated with the account
  • Password
  • Security questions & answers (if applicable)

We will handle the renewal process, submit the payment on your behalf, and add the cost to your statement. Our $150 fee for application completion and handling will also be included.

Prerequisites for Renewal

Before initiating the renewal, please ensure the following:

  • Active Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) Certificate – Your TOT certificate must be active, and all related taxes should be current.
  • Rental Unit Business Tax (RUBT) Compliance – Your RUBT account must be active, and all dues should be settled.

Prefer to Renew Your License Yourself?

If you would rather manage the renewal independently, just let us know. We will provide the necessary local contact details and hosting platform information to ensure your renewal meets all compliance requirements.

Final Steps

Once the renewal is completed—whether by us or by you—please forward us the renewed license and host signage, as these will be sent directly to your email.

Staying proactive with your renewal ensures uninterrupted operation and compliance with San Diego’s short-term rental regulations.
